01 Oct La Mesa Motel, Santa Rosa, New Mexico
The neon sign for La Mesa Motel in Santa Rosa, New Mexico combines some of the classic mid-century modern motifs that all vintage neon lovers crave: the boomerang, a giant arrow, and the classic red and blue color combination. Add to this the pink neon trim on the motel and the very dramatic sunset and my inner voice was screaming “paint me, paint me”! I snapped a few great pictures of the sunset before it vanished and am currently working on a large canvas of this in my studio. Of course I love the darkened letters as well – classic old neon and what we all love about it.
