The Britten Leaning Water Tower is another humorous roadside icon along the panhandle stretch of Route 66 near Groom, Texas. In the early 1980’s entrepreneur Ralph Britten decided to open a truck stop and restaurant and needed a water tower. Typical of good old-fashioned American ingenuity, he figured if you “lean it” they will come! And indeed they did. His truck stop became a real hot spot for weary and thirsty travelers of all kinds. Sadly, an electrical fire shut the place down later in the 80’s and now just the water tower remains.
