28 Sep Blue Spruce Motel, Gallup New Mexico
Route 66 is full of historic motels as you drive through Gallup, New Mexico, and the Blue Spruce Motel sign was one of highlights of that stretch. I have to admit, some signs light me up more than others – this is one of the classics. What is it about these old neon signs that pulls at my heart strings? I suppose it’s the imagery evoked by the words “Steam Heat”, and the overall design and “friendliness” of the sign.
I’m putting this one in the category of “need to paint soon”, which after a road trip like Route 66 is saying a lot. So many images I want to paint, not enough time! Thank goodness for the camera!
