Billboards for the historic El Rancho Hotel beckon Route 66 travelers miles and miles before you get to Gallup, New Mexico. This is the famous hotel where John Wayne and all his buddies stayed and caroused when they were making the classic westerns that define the genre of the 1940’s and 50’s shoot-em-ups. It was a fun place to visit. But just as much fun was seeing all the billboards dotting the gorgeous Arizona landscape.
