15 Oct Ambler’s Texaco station, Dwight, Illinois
On the second day of our Route 66 adventure from Chicago to Los Angeles, we found the beautifully restored Ambler’s Texaco gas station which is on the National Register of Historic Places, in Dwight, Illinois. It was originally built in 1933 and was the longest operating gas station on Route 66 until 1999 when they pumped their last tank of gas. They have so many wonderful details here that really take you back to the early days of traveling on Route 66.
